There is a wealth of Trust properties within a surprisingly compact area in East Sussex and we will endeavour to visit most of them. For those of you who love gardens, this will be just up your street as many of them have wonderful gardens so during July they should be looking at their best. After very many enquiries I’ve also found somewhere to stay that I think you will really enjoy – East Sussex National Hotel – it’s at a golf club and is central to the places we are visiting.

Petworth House NT – this has been on my ‘bucket list’ for a long time, it contains one of the best art collections in any of the Trusts properties, so do a little homework and work out what you want to see whilst you are there as there will not be time to see everything. If enough people are interested I can arrange a private guided tour, the ‘Treasures of Petworth Tour’.

Brighton – a visit to Sussex would not be complete without a visit to this historic seaside town. We’ll have a guide to show us ‘the Best of Brighton’ and later visit the Royal Pavilion. Rounding off the day with a visit to Sussex Prairie Garden, an interesting new garden where we will have tea.

Sheffield Park NT – this magnificent landscape garden has some fantastic views and we will have a guide to help us get the best from our visit.

Standen House NT – this family ‘Arts and Crafts’ house with Morris interiors is set in a delightful situation and I’m sure you will enjoy the charming garden

Alfriston Clergy House NT – stands next to the church in the delightful village of Alfriston, it was the first property purchased by the Trust 120 years ago!
From here we will make our way to Rodmell for lunch in the local pub (included) then visit Monk’s House NT - the 17th century weather-boarded cottage lived in by Leonard and Virginia Woolf from 1919 until Leonard’s death in 1969.

Arundel Castle – home of the Dukes of Norfolk for 850 years is another place on my ‘bucket list’ which I feel we should visit if we are visiting East Sussex.

Nymans NT – One of the Trust’s premier gardens, it was the country retreat for the Messel family, with views stretching out across the Sussex Weald. I wonder if you will agree that I’ve left what I think is the best till nearly last, I hope you will really enjoy this delightful property.

Woolbeding Gardens NT. Nestled in a quiet corner of West Sussex lies a true horticultural haven bursting with colourful planting, sensational views and a host of surprises which we’ll visit on our way home.
